Darla has been passionate about birth for as long as she can remember. She started doing doula work in 1990 but only realized in 2003 that there was a name for the work she was doing and immediately took her training to be a Labor Doula. She then continued on that path and earn several more certifications including: Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, Happiest Baby on the Block Instructor , and Lactation Educator. She has also been trained as an Infant Massage Instructor.
In 2007, Darla became the CAPPA Postpartum Doula Trainer for the state of California.
From 2009-2013, Darla served as the Executive Director of Postpartum Doulas for CAPPA where she managed the Postpartum Doula Program and Faculty in the U.S. in Canada.
In 2012, she co-Founded Doulas for Surrogacy to provide Birth and Postpartum Doulas to Birthing Women and Intended Parents going through the surrogacy process.
Darla has contributed to several books, magazine articles, blogs, and documentaries. Additionally, she has spoken at several national and local perinatal conferences.
Darla currently serves the Santa Clarita Valley, San Fernando Valley, and surrounding areas as a doula. She teaches Postpartum Doula Trainings throughout the state of California and nearby states several times per year. Darla has been married since 1994, has 2 wonderful children, and a pug named Dazie. When she is not doing doula work or teaching, she likes to spend time with her family and friends, drink coffee, try new restaurants, hike, and mentor other doulas.
She is bringing back awareness to our community about natural, raw birthing!!! We are so excited to have another community midwife!
